An academic couple came to me with a vision: a pair of obsidian wedding bands crafted from a special piece of obsidian. They had personally brought to the studio. Using this unique stone, I created two distinct sets—one in silver and one in gold. This is the silver pair.
The silver allowed for a more robust design, offering creative flexibility while keeping the cost accessible. To ensure the bands were durable enough for everyday wear without feeling bulky, I introduced a jagged edge. Remarkably, this detail not only created the illusion of a thinner profile, but also added a subtle sparkle along the edge. To my knowledge, this is a unique feature that I haven’t seen before.
Shaping the edges by hand was a challenge, as symmetry was essential, but the result was seamless. The couple was delighted with the finished bands, which perfectly balance artistry, functionality, and the natural beauty of the volcanic glass stone.
