18K White Gold Green Sapphire Ring

It was a pleasure working with William on this truly extraordinary engagement ring. His artistic vision and bold confidence to defy convention are qualities that are rare to find, and it was inspiring to bring his elaborate idea to life. He was determined to create a ring that would not only impress his fiancée but also serve as a remarkable symbol of their love.

The design was uniquely composed of three separate rings, each one crafted to have an organic, tree branch-inspired feel. At the heart of the design was a breathtaking one-of-a-kind stone—a large, natural green sapphire. True green sapphires are exceedingly rare and, in comparison to the more common blue variety, they are especially difficult to find. Typically, green sapphires lean more toward a bluish-green hue, but this particular stone was the largest natural, true green sapphire the client could find, measuring an impressive 10mm in diameter. Selecting this exceptional stone took William two full months, and we ultimately adjusted the design to accommodate its size and character.

Although the design was initially rendered in 3D, every aspect of the three engagement rings was handcrafted. This allowed me to create the tree bark texture in a way that was as organic and lifelike as possible. The challenge was in positioning the three bands so they overlapped perfectly—strong enough to support the stone while maintaining the overall natural aesthetic. William was adamant that the design should avoid prongs to preserve the ring’s organic essence, so we opted for a tension setting.

The wedding band was equally distinctive. William envisioned a dragon, but with an impressionist twist. He wanted it to appear as if the dragon was broken into fragmented, abstract forms, adding an unexpected layer of artistry to the piece. All four rings—engagement and wedding bands—were crafted from 18K white gold, creating a sleek yet durable foundation for these one-of-a-kind creations.

Why I wouldn’t make something similar again?

While I’m proud to have added such a unique and intricate piece to my portfolio, this project was by far one of the most challenging I’ve ever undertaken (aside from the crown project). Tension-setting such an irreplaceable, though insured, stone was a nerve-wracking experience, and I would not make such piece again
